BURLINGTON — Daniel W. Burke continues to improve and is now listed in serious condition at Fletcher Allen Health Care.
Plattsburgh City Police said the Plattsburgh man, 60, intentionally set himself afire inside his Charles Way home last week.
Responding police officers rescued Burke from the burning duplex mobile home and were able to extinguish the flames, which left the man with first- and second-degree burns to his lower body.
Burke reportedly told police he set the blaze in an attempt to kill himself.
The fire left two of the responding officers with smoke inhalation and the house a total loss.
Two other tenants, Sandra Smith, 62, and Donald Giddings, 19, were displaced by the fire, which continues to be investigated.
Burke, who was arrested for driving while intoxicated about two hours before the blaze and was out on bail for allegedly sexually abusing a child, remained in critical condition for several days after the fire.
He was listed in serious condition at the Burlington hospital Monday afternoon.
