FELONY ARRESTS

BOMBAY — A Hogansburg couple faces stolen property charges.

Ray Brook-based State Police said Fay Donelly gave her debit card to her neighbors, Floyd H. Smith, 24, and Ciera L. Smith, 22, allowing them to charge things to her card and pay later.

Police said Donelly said they have done it before.

In this particular incident, police said the Smiths returned the card to her saying they didn't use it, but when Donelly came out of her bedroom, she found her front door ajar.

Police said Donelly thought the wind blew it open, but a couple days later she wasn't able to find her card.

Upon contacting her bank, police said, Donelly found her card was used at three different ATMs.

The incident was reported at 3:15 p.m. Feb. 9.

Floyd was arrested at 8:13 a.m. Feb. 17 at 555 Irish Settlement Road and Ciera was arrested at 12:07 p.m. at the same location.

Both were charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, and five counts of petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

No further information was available.

PERSONAL-INJURY ACCIDENTS

ESSEX — A Willsboro man was injured in an accident.

Rebecca I. Mitchell, 34, was driving at 11:56 p.m. Feb. 18 on Spear Road in a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo when she fell asleep at the wheel and veered off the roadway into a ditch.

Mitchell was reported injured and was transported to Elizabethtown Community Hospital, where she was treated and released.

FIRE

MOOERS — A 911 call reporting smoke at 169 Grew Road was thought to be a structure fire on Wednesday afternoon, but it turned out a pellet stove was low on fuel.

But smoke poured from the chimney, though resident Cammy Yelle said there was none in her home.

Clinton County Fire Control called out Mooers Volunteer Fire Department and mutual aid, as well.

Help arrived quickly, Yelle said. Fortunately, there were no flames to douse.

"All they did was clean the ashes out of (the stove)," she said.
