Looking for something fun to do today?

Complete listings of area events can be found in Thursday's Out & About section and in the Community Calendar, which appears every Friday in the Press-Republican, but here are the highlights of what is happening today:

Cadyville Firefighters Field Day. Noon to 6 p.m. Parade, games, food, contests and more. Battle of the Bands, with grand prize of $1,000.

Eat Dessert First, A Celebration of Life. 1 to 3 p.m., CVPH Medical Center front lawn, Plattsburgh. Entertainment by Scott Burton, comedian, performance artist and cancer survivor. This celebration of life includes desserts and serves as a testimonial to the service and commitment of the staff at the FitzPatrick Cancer Center.

Flag Day ceremony. 2 p.m., American Legion Post 20, Quarry Road, Plattsburgh. The post Honor Guard will retire all used flags. Boy Scout and Girl Scout troop and other young people encouraged to attend to learn about the flag.

Kidney Walk and Picnic. 11 a.m. registration at HK Freedman Renal Center, Plattsburgh, followed by walk and picnic at noon. To benefit the National Kidney Foundation of Northeast New York.

Second-annual Ride for the Red. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., registration 9:30 a.m., American Legion Post 1619, West Plattsburgh. Coffee and doughnuts available for participants, and a complimentary barbecue served after the ride. 50/50 drawing, Chinese auction and raffle. $20 for rider, $15 for passenger. Sponsored by the North Country Chapter American Red Cross.

"Garrison Keillor: The Radio Man in the Red Shoes." 3 p.m. Lake Placid Center for the Arts, 17 Algonquin Drive, Lake Placid. Documentary about the "Prairie Home Companion" creator, humorist and commentator. $10. Final film of the Lake Placid Film Forum.

Lake Placid Adaptive Cycling Festival. All day. Lake Placid Horse Show Grounds. Group rides, skills instruction, demonstrations and more. Learn more at www.lakeplacidadaptive.com.

"Celebrating a Landscape of Culture and Ideas: 1609-2009." 3 p.m. Adirondack History Center Museum, 7590 Court St., Elizabethtown. Walking tour of the Boquet River Cemetery in New Russia. Locate and identify tombstones of early settlers. Tour begins at the museum then carpools to Otis Lane. $10 non-members. $5 members, $2 students.

Pok-O-MacCready Picnic. 2 to 8 p.m., Pok-O-MacCready Outdoor Education Center, 1391 Reber Road, Willsboro. Swimming, boating, games, cookout for dinner and campfire. To register, call 963-7967.

Scleroderma Walk/Run. 10 a.m., registration at 9, Beekmantown Town Hall, Spellman Road, Plattsburgh. In memory of Randy Duprey. Music, food, raffles.

Seventh-annual radio-controlled model-airplane show. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Memorial Field, 185 Rooney Road, Beekmantown. Sponsored by the Plattsburgh Radio Aeromodelers Club to benefit the Hospice of the North Country.

Mount Hermon Chapter 653 brunch. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., O.E.S. Hall, Ellenburg Center, Brandy Brook Road. Adults, $7; children under 12, $3.50; under 5, free.
