BRASHER FALLS — The Franklin Academy boys’ hockey season ended with a 5-2 loss to St. Lawrence Central in the Section X semifinal playoffs.
And with it the long coaching career of Chuck Dievendorf, who is retiring after serving as one year as assistant coach and the past 33 years as head coach for the Huskies.
“I retired as a teacher on January 25 and now it’s time to retire from hockey,” said Dievendorf. “I’m sure when hockey season starts next year, it’s going to hit me the hardest.”

Ian Lynch scored two goals for the Larries, who will play Norwood-Norfolk for the Division II championship. Nathan Stickney, Styles Arquiett and Kody Kocsis added a goal each.
Eighth-grader Kyler Head and Tanner Studlack scored for the Huskies (9-12-1). Head’s goal gave Franklin Academy the lead with 1:59 gone in the second period.
Stickney and Lynch, on the power play, answered for St. Lawrence later in the period to give the Larries a 2-1 advantage.
Arquiett and Kocsis added third-period goals to make it 4-1 before Studlack got one of the goals back for the Huskies midway through.
Nate McLaughlin made 21 saves in net for the Larries and Joey Brown stopped 21 shots for the Huskies.
“They took advantage of their scoring opportunities,” said Dievendorf. “It was a great game — our kids never quit. The final score was not indicative of the game.
“Our kids were able to achieve most of their goals this season.”
