Genealogy workshop set

MALONE — A retired teacher is hosting a workshop to show genealogy buffs how to research and write a family history.

Carol Poole will present “Writing a Family Narrative” beginning Monday, April 8, at the Schryer Center for Historical and Genealogical Research housed at the Franklin County Historical and Museum Society.

She is a former English teacher who also taught at the college level before retiring. She has written several published articles, and her own book about local history in Tupper Lake was recently published.

The workshop, which is sponsored by Franklin County Historical and Museum Society, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. to start and last eight weeks. The start time may be revised, depending on participants’ wishes.

The cost is $150 per person, and a minimum of six people are needed to hold the workshop.

Poole said those attending will bring research materials they have already started and will have access to the Schryer Center’s vast collection of historical material to glean more information about their families.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own laptop or other device for Internet access since computers are limited at the center, she said.

“This will be an interactive class where everyone helps each other,” Poole said. “We will be breaking up into groups of two or three to help each other do it.”

To register for the workshop, call 483-2750 by Monday, April 1.
