Laura Hardy Trumbull

WILMINGTON — After a long and heroic battle with cancer, Laura (Hardy) Trumbull, 82, passed away on March 2, 2013, at her home on Quaker Mountain in the loving care of her family.

She was born July 8, l930 in Wilmington, one of the ten children of Keith and Frances (Winch) Hardy. Her Mother died at an early age leaving several younger siblings in her care.

A life long resident of Wilmington, she attended the local grade school and graduated from Au Sable Forks High School where she was a cheerleader. She met and married her high school sweetheart, Howard "Trum" Trumbull. They loved to dance and were often the winners at many local dance contests. This talent continued throughout the years.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-five years; daughters, Karen and Kristy; grandsons, Joseph d'Avignon and Danny Ward; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Jane Peck and husband Dana; brother, Mike Hardy and wife Judith; sisters- in-law, Barbara Hardy, Pat Hardy, and Barbara-Smart Hardy.

Her passion for gardening led her to work at the Greenhouse in Au Sable Forks. Her home was her castle; and her gardening expertise, along with Trum's helping hands, is displayed with blossoming flowers and shrubs every year from early spring until late fall.

She loved hosting family gatherings, weddings, and social events for her many friends. Her pride and joy was in creating new and exciting dishes to serve.

From a very young age, Laura was a gifted and talented seamstress. From sewing her daughters the "perfect" outfit for a special occasion to designing and creating original costumes for Santa's Workshop, Laura loved her sewing machine!

She also ran the ski shop at Paleface Ski Center for many years and enjoyed teaching skiing to the local school children.

Laura loved to travel and spent several winters with her husband in their motor home, she called "My Little Doll House".

She was a founding member and long time treasurer of the "Friends of the E.M. Cooper Memorial Library". Her fundraising efforts on behalf of the library are well known to those in the community.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, Laura and her family requests donations be made in her memory to either: E. M. Cooper Memorial Library, PO Box 29, Wilmington, NY 12997 or High Peaks Hospice, PO Box 840, Saranac Lake, NY 12983

The Thwaits-Zaumeter Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
