WEST CHAZY — Mr. Gerald U. Devins Sr., 87, of Military Turnpike in West Chazy, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with family by his side.
He was born in Keeseville on April 11, 1925, the son of the late John and Alfreda (Cutler) Devins.
Gerald attended Plattsburgh High School and served in the U.S. Army 36th Infantry Division during World War II from 1943-1945. He saw combat in North Africa and Europe and received the Bronze Star. He was a truck driver for Railway Express Agency from 1946-1975 and then for Plattsburgh City School District from 1978 until retiring in 1990. Gerald enjoyed watching wrestling, football and boxing.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathleen (Gowett) Devins; sons, Gene Devins and Gerald Devins; daughter-in- law and caretaker, Angela Devins; three grandchildren, Mandi Devins and companion Joe Bonneau, Haileigh Devins and Hannah Devins; great-granddaughter, Jaclyn Bonneau; his brother, Roland Devins; nieces, Terry Head Devins and Barbara Devins; nephew, Danny Devins; and several nieces and nephews. He is loved by all and will be missed.
He was predeceased by a brother, Melburn; and sisters, Sondra Reeves and Shirley Rock.
Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. in the Brown Funeral Home chapel. Interment with military honors will be in St. Joseph's cemetery in West Chazy at a later date.
