GLENS FALLS — Ronald N. Murdock, 47, resident of Glens Falls, N.Y., passed away unexpectedly Dec. 7, 2012, while on vacation in the Bahamas with his family.
Ron was born in Ticonderoga, N.Y., on April 30, 1965 with his twin brother Donnie. He was the son of the late William and Susanne (Swan) Murdock.
Ron graduated from Moriah Central School in 1983. He played with the Moriah Viking football team and has proudly supported the Vikings throughout the years.
Ron joined the Mineville/Witherbee volunteer fire department and the Moriah Ambulance squad as soon as he turned 18 and devoted his life to helping others. He volunteered on various fire and rescue squads but formed an everlasting bond with the men and women he served beside on the Shelburne Vt. fire and rescue squad. In 2001 and 2007, he was presented with the Firefighter of the Year Award. He has proudly served on rescue working in the pits at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway Nascar Sprint Cup, modified and truck races.
Ron moved to Glens Falls after meeting the love of his life, Angel Gillis. They were married on May 31, 2008 at the Glens Falls Fire Dept. Ron's greatest joy in life was being " Daddy " to his daughter, Addison and son, Darian. He also treasured his many nieces and nephews.
Ron worked several years for IBM security in Essex Junction, Vt. and was recently employed as a Security Guard at the Aviation Mall in Queensbury, N.Y.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Loni (Murdock) Orr, grandparents Charles and Sophie Maple, Sam and Rita Trapasso, Howard Swan Sr., Agnes and Bill Smith and his father-in-law Bart Carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Angel Murdock; and their children, Addison and Darian of Glens Falls; brother, Donald (Joanne) Murdock of Moriah, N.Y.; Sisters, Gina (Tom) Catanzarita of Charlotte Vt., Julie Garcia of Westport N.Y., and Linell (Ed) Decker of Moriah, N.Y.; mother-in-law, Micki Carpenter of Glens Falls, N.Y.; Father-in-law Howard Gillis of Argyle, N.Y.; Sister-in-laws, Cari (Joe) Schlager of North Las Vegas, Nev., and Maggie (Jason) Gillis of Queensbury, N.Y.; grandmother, Marge Swan of Chestertown, N.Y.; Nieces and Nephews, Chelsea (Josh) Catanzarita, Brittney, Kristen and Kaycee Orr, Cassie Lapier, Benjamin, Cody and Molly Schlager; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14th at Harland Funeral home in Port Henry, N.Y. A Catholic Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15th at St. Patrick's Church, Port Henry, N.Y., with burial proceeding at the South Moriah Road Cemetery.
