Mary Elizabeth Sayward

WILLSBORO — Mary Elizabeth Sayward, 95, of the Middle Road, Willsboro, died Monday, Dec 31, 2012 at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital.

She was born in Willsboro, June 19, 1917 the daughter of Royal and Maude (Stickney) Feltt. Mary worked beside her husband, Norman, on the family farm for the entire duration of its operation. She is remembered for not only her work in the field during each harvest but also her participation with milking, and other farming tasks. She later worked at the Essex County Old Age Home in Whallonsburg until it closed. She then worked at Horace Nye in Elizabethtown until retiring.

Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church of Willsboro and Patron of the Paine Memorial Library. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, working on word puzzles, and crocheting.

Survivors include her four sons and three daughters-in-law, Robert Sayward and Doreena of Willsboro, Rolland Sayward and Betty of Little Falls, Roger Sayward and Shirley of Willsboro, and Donald Sayward of Ellenburg Center; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna McKenna and Michael of Powhatan, Va.; one daughter-in-law, Virginia Sayward of Willsboro; five sisters-in-law, Mary Feltt of Latham, Lucille Feltt of Southington, Conn., Isabelle Feltt of Lehigh Acres, Fla., Betty Lou Squires of Plattsburgh, and Gladys Cushing of Willsboro; one brother-in-law, Steve Sayward Sr. of Essex; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 63 years, Norman S. Sayward, Feb. of 1997; son, Roy Sayward, Sr., Aug. 8, 2012; and four brothers, Harold Feltt, William Feltt, Carlos Feltt, and Edward Feltt.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 from 1 to 3 pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will follow at 3 pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in the spring in the Memorial Cemetery in Willsboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Willsboro Rescue Squad, 3 Point Road, Willsboro, NY 12996 or the Paine Memorial Library, 2 Gilliland Lane, Willsboro, NY 12996.
