Leo M. Allen

PLATTSBURGH — Mr. Leo M. Allen, 94, of Grace Avenue in Plattsburgh, passed away at Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility, Dec. 29, 2012. He was born in North Creek to Edith (Hunt) and Percy Allen on Feb. 2, 1918.

Leo graduated from North Creek High School Central School in 1938, and the New York (City) Trade School in 1940. He enlisted in the Army in 1941, recruited in the Army Corps of Engineers, and worked on the Alaska Supply Line and was station in Philippines. In 1943, he married Hazel (Sollie) Allen in North Creek. After the war, Leo worked several years at the family business (Allen's Electric) in North Creek, and as a care-taker for several camps throughout the Adirondacks. He was the Fire Chief of the North Creek Volunteer Fire Department. In 1959, the family moved to Chazy, and Leo work for M. P. Meyer & Co., until he retired in 1983. In 1987, Leo and Hazel became year round residents of Sebring, Fla., where he worked full time until the age of 85. Upon returning to Plattsburgh in 2004, his focus was to help and assist his sons and their families. He especially loved splitting and stacking wood with his son Eric. Leo was a member of the Plattsburgh B.P.O.E. of Elks 621 and the Loyal Order of 2390 Masons.

Leo is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws; Christopher Allen and Lois Durocher of Plattsburgh, Eric and Cynthia Allen of Plattsburgh and Keene Valley; Granddaughters, Mrs. Tracy Gordon and Mrs. Tricia Gonyo of Moores; Grandsons, Travis Allen, Brent Allen, and Hans Allen of Plattsburgh; Great-Grandchildren, Alexander, Hayden, Hannah, and Ian; a brother, Roger Allen and his wife MaryAnn of Gansevoort; and a sister, Hazel (Allen) Minder of North Creek.

He is predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Myra (Allen Woodard.

Leo will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery, in Washington D.C. alongside his beloved wife Hazel, who passed away in Oct. of 1990. Per Leo's request there are no calling hours. The family has planned a private "remembrance" gatherings. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home.

    HERKIMER — Russell A. LaFontaine, 91, of Herkimer and formerly of Champlain, N.Y., passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 15, 2013, in the Folts Home, Inc., Herkimer, with his family by his side. He was born Dec. 22, 1921, in Champlain, the son of the late Emmett and Elsie (Allard) LaFontaine and was educated in Champlain schools. Russell served in the United States Army during World War II. He married the former Leona Dupee. Mrs. LaFontaine passed away in 1989.
