Rita I. Cable


---- — PLATTSBURGH — Rita I. Cable, 94, formerly of Cumberland Head, passed away peacefully on Dec. 9, 2012, at the CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y. She was born in Chazy, the daughter of Eli and Fannie (Jarvis) Brown.

On Sept. 26, 1938 she married Richard F. Cable in Suffern, N.Y. He predeceased Rita on Jan. 25, 1989.

Rita worked in the cafeterias at St.John's School, Beekmantown Central School and then at Cumberland Head School. Her favorite job was raising her family and being involved in their activities and sports.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's of the Lake Church and an active member of the Ladies of the Lake. Enjoyed traveling in the winter months, including to Florida and Arizona. She and her husband were avid bowlers and were members of many mixed bowling leagues. She was also a member of the New York State Women's Bowling Association. They also owned lakeside cottages where they managed summer rentals.

Survivors include two sons, Richard L. and Celine Cable and David Cable, both of Plattsburgh; one daughter, Linda Rowe of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Ann LaPier of Plattsburgh; 7 grandchildren, Lynn Farrell, Ed Knicherbocker, Michael, Tracy and Todd Cable, Laurie Clark and Kris Thome; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one daughter, Elaine Knickerbocker; one son, Robert Cable; two brothers, Anthony Brown and Eli Brown; and two sisters, Myrtle LaPier and Theresa Ogg. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13th at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be in St. Mary's of the Lake Cemetery on Cumberland Head, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Donations in her memory may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center.

Rita's family would like to give special thanks to the CVPH staff that gave her such loving care.
