PLATTSBURGH — Robert "Bob" M. Smith, 69, of St. John's Place, Plattsburgh, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at CVPH Medical Center.
He was born in Omaha, Neb., on Sept. 1, 1943 and was the son of Clifton and Gladys (Lehr) Smith.
Bob graduated from Stratton High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. In 1963 he joined the United States Air Force. During his 20 years of service he was stationed in the Philippines, Vietnam, South and North Dakota, and Germany. He retired from the military in 1983 and began working for Champlain Valley Educational Services in Plattsburgh, retiring in 2010. Bob was a member of the Barracks Golf Course in Plattsburgh where he spent most of his time during golf season. He also cherished his time with his family, traveling with his wife, washing his cars, cutting the lawn and walking his dog Peaches.
Bob was predeceased by parents; a brother, Cliff "Sunny" Smith; and a sister, Gay Garner.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Elaine (McGinness) Smith of Plattsburgh; two sons, Robert "Bobby" Smith II and his fianc^e Angie Shoemaker of Calif. and Curtis "C.J." Smith and his wife Lindsey Smith of Plattsburgh; two grandchildren, Abbie and Liam Smith; a sister, Peggy Pappas and her husband George of N.C.; a brother-in-law, Albert Garner of Ga.; his in-laws, John and Doris McGinness of Moriah, N.Y.; his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Anne Marie Smith and her husband Dale of Valatie, N.Y., Michael McGinness and his wife Carol of Balston Lake, N.Y., Patrick McGinness and Mary Hope of Crown Point, N.Y., David Joseph McGinness of, Mass.; several nieces and nephews also survive him.
At Bob's request there will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh.
