MONROE, N.C. — Wilma Carolyn (Lewis) Conover, 90, formerly of Champlain, N.Y., died Jan. 19, 2013, in Monroe, N.C. She was the daughter of William and Olga Lewis, and wife of the late Paul V. Conover.
Earlier in her life, she was a community volunteer, being one of the founding members of the Mooers Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and its first president. She was also president of the conference Woman's Society of Christian Service in Champlain.
She was employed in various service and retail management jobs until she retired at age 75. In the year she retired, she won a Company sales award.
In retirement, Wilma enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and especially, making crafts, which she always shared with her family, friends and strangers. She really loved getting calls and visits from her family.
She led her life with the same approach she used when making a quilt. If she made a mistake with the stitching, or if one part didn't come out just right, she said she would "just put a flower on it."
Wilma will be missed by her children and their families, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her sister, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
At her request, there are no public calling hours.
Burial in Glenwood Cemetery in Champlain is planned for Summer 2013.
