Joan G. Tetreault

PLATTSBURGH — Joan Kathryn (Garrand) Tetreault, 76, formerly of Mooers, passed away peacefully Jan. 30, 2013 at Meadowbrook Nursing Home. She was born June 29, 1936 in Plattsburgh, the youngest child and only daughter of the late Alphonse "Alfonzo" T. and Helen (Tulley) Garrand of Mooers.

Joan was a 1954 graduate of Mooers Central School, and graduated in 1955 from Albany Business College. On Sept. 1, 1956, she was married to Wendell R. Tetreault at St. Joseph's Church in Mooers by Rev. Roger Poirier. They were married for 35 years before he passed away on Oct. 19, 1991.

Joan would like to be remembered most as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, devoted to her family, friends, and to her community.

From the 1950s-1980s, she was employed by Marshall's Hardware in downtown Plattsburgh, Dragoon's Farm Equipment in Mooers, Trimex Enterprises and Acme Engineering in Mooers, and Aubuchon Hardware in Champlain. For a short time, she delivered meals for the Mooers Senior Citizen's Nutrition Program. From 1963-1975, she held various positions in the village of Mooers: Village Clerk, Treasurer, and Tax Collector. She was a devoted communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Mooers, a member of the church finance committee, Mooers Fire Dept. Auxiliary, and a Red Cross Liaison during the Ice Storm of 1998. As long as she was able, Joan enjoyed cooking for family and friends, gardening, the outdoors, and painting. She survived for over a year more than doctors predicted, which is a testament to her strength and perseverance through hard times.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Mumley and her husband Michael of West Shore Rd., Alburgh, Vt., Julie Lafountain and her husband Billy of Mesa, AZ; one son, Jonathan W. Tetreault (partner Eric Mundell) of Indianapolis, Ind.; grandchildren, Daniel Mumley (companion Olivia Muir) of Saint Albans, Vt., Jason Mumley (companion Megan Kittell) of Alburgh, Vt., Andrew & Adam Hendrickson of Carthage, Ind., Gillian Hernandez of Miami, Fla.; step grandchildren, Holly Lafountain (partner Hector Espinosa) of West Hollywood, Calif., Bobbi Lafountain (partner Tiffany Titus) of Crown Point, N.Y., Adam Lafountain (partner Craig Vaughn) of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and one great-grandchild, Aubrey Muir-Mumley of Saint Albans; one brother, Arlen Garrand Sr. of Mooers also survives, in addition to sister in-laws Rita Garrand, Mary Ellen Garrand, and Anita Garrand of Mooers, and Mary H. Tetreault of West Chazy, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by several close friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Joan was predeceased by brothers, Warren Garrand, Rodney Garrand, and Wayne T. Garrand; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Luella Garrand, Wanda Renadette, Joyce Duquette, and Eugene L. Tetreault.

A special thank you goes out to the staff of Meadowbrook who were dedicated to her care.
