Charlotte A. Douglas

JAY — Charlotte A. Douglas, 95, of Route 86, died peacefully at her home Thursday, Jan. 24.

Charlotte was born on Oct. 6, 1917, in Jay, the daughter of the Oliver and Lora (Brown) Dodge.

Charlotte enjoyed gardening, playing cards, cooking, baking and spending time with her family. She also owned her own restaurant, "The Old Homestead."

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn (Fran) Kane of Jay and Louise (Dennis) Hayes also of Jay; and one son, Marvin (Helen) Douglas of Arizona. Grandchildren include, Cindy (Jeff) Estes, Wendy (Eric) Williams, Randy (Rikki) Kane, Andy (Windy) Kane, Tammy Cornick, David (Sherri) Cornick, Tanya (Glen) Stevens, Debbie (Casan) Callaway, Patti (Brett) Nelson, Jason (Jessica) Hayes. She has 16 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, George Douglas; a son, Charles Cornick; three grandchildren Ricky Cornick, Penny Kane and Danny Kane; and one great-great-grandson, Kibe Cornick.

Calling hours will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, at the Thwaits-Zaumetzer Funeral Home in Au Sable Forks, N.Y. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice Group of Mineville, N.Y. We can't thank the folks of Hospice enough, they were all great,loving and caring.

He was born on Burnt Hill near Saranac on June 15, 1923, the son of Hubert and Dora (Clancy) Downs. Dan was raised on Burnt Hill, and lived and worked in the area. He married Marion Macey on April 29, 1946, and lived on Burnt Hill until they built a home in Keeseville in 1960.
