Shirley M. Leach

BRAINARDSVILLE — Shirley M. Leach, 94, of State Route 374, Brainardsville, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at St. Regis Nursing Home, Massena, N.Y.

Born in Burke, N.Y. on Jan. 20, 1919, she was the daughter of Elmer and Sadie (Crawford) Mason. Her parents predeceased her.

She was married to William Leach on June 26, 1942 at her parent's home by Rev. F. Phelps.

Mrs. Leach graduated from Chateaugay High School in 1935, Plattsburgh Normal School in 1938 with a Bachelor's Degree and Plattsburgh State University in 1943 with a Master's Degree. She was a teacher at Chateaugay Central School and retired in 1974 after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Brainardsville United Methodist Church, Retired Teachers Association and Burke Adult Center. She was also a member and past matron of Frontier Chapter #203 Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Leach is survived by her husband of 70 years; four daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Jim Robbins of Champlain, Cindy and Don McCormick of Loudonville, Susan and Ed Plasberg of Rexford, Judy and Bruce Chagnon of Massena; five grandchildren and their spouses, Amy and Bill Crowell, Brian and Marianne McCormick, Julie and Jay Cristello, Annette Robbins, Kathie and Darryll West; seven great-grandchildren, Brooke West, Emma and Megan Crowell, Kelly and Brendan McCormick, Jessica and Justin Cristello.

At Shirley's request, there will be no calling hours.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28 in the Chateaugay Funeral Home with Rev. Marty Connor and Cora Smith officiating. Spring burial will take place at Burke Center Cemetery, Burke.

Donations in her memory may be made to Chateaugay Rescue Squad, Burke Adult Center or the Brainardsville United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be offered at www.chateaugayfuneralhome.com
