Charles (Chuck) Farrington

CALIFORNIA/CHAZY, NY — Charles (Chuck) Farrington, 86 formerly of Chazy, N.Y., passed peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 with his daughter, Audrey by his side. Chuck was a lifelong resident of upstate New York until the age of 84 when he moved to Roseville, Cali. He was born in Stillwater, N.Y., on Nov. 9, 1926 to Charles and Bessie "Muz" Farrington. The youngest of four surviving children, he was fatherless by the age of two. He learned a lifelong habit of resourcefulness and generosity as a child of the Great Depression.

He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1944. Chuck enlisted and served in the Air Force during WWII and trained as a Cryptographer. He was shipped to Manila as the war was concluding, and then served in the Army of Occupation in Tokyo. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal and WWII Victory Medal.

After his service, he attended Albany College of Pharmacy, earning his Pharmaceutical Degree in 1952, and began a 50-year career as a pharmacist. He owned and operated the Prescription Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y., until 1980, completing his career with Condo's Pharmacy. He retired from pharmacy at the age of 78.

Active in the community, he served on the City School District Board of Education for five years - three as President and on the Chazy School District Board of Education. He served as Treasurer for the Chazy Presbyterian Church for many years.

In 1976, he married the love of his life, Jeanne Light Dwyer. For 32 years, they shared a life rich with family, friends and endless projects. He and Jeanne both thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Chazy Presbyterian Church choir for many years. Chuck loved the outdoors, photography, gardening, building projects, dogs and chocolate.

He was a kind and giving man who delighted in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, enjoyed a good meal with good friends, engaging conversations, family gatherings, and never missed a 4 P.M. beer break after a day of hard work.

Chuck is survived by four daughters from his first marriage, Debra Farrington and her husband Marley Amstutz; Audrey Farrington and her husband Chris Eddy; Beth (Farrington) Pfeiffer and her husband Gordon Pfeiffer; Susan Farrington and her husband Dan Drees; Stepchildren, Pam (Dwyer) Deschenes and her partner Jim Young, Barry Dwyer and his wife Marilyn (Bushey) Dwyer, Dan Dwyer and his wife Meredith (Neverette) Dwyer; and grandchildren, Molly and Michael Pfeiffer, Ian, Matt, Patrick and Evan Dwyer as well as his beloved dog, Butterscotch.
