Bernard "Bernie" Woolman

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — Bernard "Bernie" Woolman, 98, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Bernie was born on Jan. 16, 1915, in Kiev Russia and passed on Jan. 17, 2013. Bernie is survived by his loving wife Evelyn (White) Woolman; daughter-in-law Paula (Fried) Woolman, widow of beloved son Scott Woolman; grandchildren, Jennifer Woolman and Johanna (Woolman) and Robert Kirby; great-grandchildren Aaron and Samantha Idiaquez, Stephanie and Evan Kirby; numerous nieces, nephews; great nieces; great nephews; and devoted extended family and friends.

Bernie was an amazing man. He came from Russia as a child, grew up in Troy, N.Y. and worked hard to make something of himself and provide for his family in the United States of America. He joined the Army and served during WW II, he was very proud of serving his country and told his grandchildren many stories. Bernie went to work in the furniture business and as an adult made a name for himself in the business world. He owned his own stores in Plattsburgh N. Y., was involved in the City of Plattsburgh and building its Jewish community. He was known for his commitment to his immediate family, extended family and numerous friends for whom he was a role model and mentor.

Bernie and Evelyn retired to South Florida. He was very involved with the Golf and Bridge Community in Del-Aire and then in the Frenchman Creek Community in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., where he lived for 20+ years. Bernie was affiliated with and contributed to many worthy organizations. He was a proud member Alpha Beta Gamma Fraternity (ABG), Temple Beth Israel Plattsburgh, Temple Judea Palm Beach Gardens, Daughters of Sarah Jewish Foundation, and the UJA/Federation of Greater Palm Beach County.

Funeral services will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20, at Eternal Light Cemetery. Donations may be made in memory of Bernard Woolman to the Bernard and Evelyn Woolman Family Foundation at the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County 4601 Community Drive West Palm Beach Florida 33417 and/or Daughters of Sarah Jewish Foundation 180 Washington Avenue ext Albany New York 12203.
