LaVerne Finnegan Eades

CORNWALL, ONTARIO — LaVerne Finnegan Eades, 91, of Cornwall, Ontario, entered into eternal rest peacefully with her family at her side on Jan. 17, 2013, after a lengthy illness at Heartwood Long Term Care in Cornwall, Ont.

During the last eight years, she required additional support services provided by Heartwood, where she received excellent care.

She was born in St. Thomas, Ontario on Dec. 11, 1921, the daughter of Albert E. and Nellie L. Neving. She grew up in St. Thomas, graduating from St. Thomas School. LaVerne enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1943, serving at C.M.H.Q., London, England, as a cipher operator. She was honorably discharged in 1945.

LaVerne married Frank Finnegan and moved to Keeseville, N.Y., where they raised their family. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Alter Rosary Society, an Avon Representative for many years and later employed at CVPH. Returning to St. Thomas after retirement, she enjoyed traveling abroad and wintering in Florida.

LaVerne is survived by her three children, Thomas (Cathy) Finnegan of Palm Harbor, Fla., Peggy (Bruce) McCormick of Peru, Barrie (Lisa) Finnegan of Plattsburgh. Grandchildren, Michelle (Adams), David, Derrick, Julie, Meagan, and Christopher Finnegan. Melissa (McCormick) Hevner, Matthew and Andrew McCormick. Step grandchildren, Ben and Elizabeth Thomas. Six great-grandchildren; dear cousin Dorothy Rice of St. Thomas, Ont. and Bill (Karen) Lumley of Windsor, Ont. Brother-in-law Skip (Janice) Finnegan of Queensbury; sister-in-law Carol Finnegan of Keeseville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, a daughter Kathleen L. Finnegan (2002), Ken (Tiger) Barrett, Charles Eades and Frank Finnegan (2010).

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated in Keeseville this summer followed by a military graveside service in St. Thomas, Ont.

Donations in her memory may be made to Heartwood, 201-11th St. East, Cornwall, Ontario K6H 2Y6 or the Elgin Military Museum, 30 Talbot St., St. Thomas, Ontario N5P 1A3.
