Jean Cutting Gravelle Wykes

PORT HENRY — Jean was born in Port Henry in 1922 and lived in many of the little towns in Essex County. She was the daughter of Claude and Lucy (Jackson) Cutting. She had one beloved sister "Monnie" that she lost so very many years ago. She married Gilbert Gravelle when she was 18 years old and together they had five children. In later years, she married Meredith Wykes. Sadly, our Mom passed on her 91st birthday.

Jean enjoyed reading, collecting knick knacks - especially anything the color blue - working at the "meal site" in Port Henry, drinking her morning cup of hot chocolate, and going for rides to enjoy the autumn leaves. Jean loved to take her morning walks around Port Henry. Jean was a devout Catholic and attended mass as long as she was able to. Jean loved her apartment in Port Henry and her good neighbors and her kind landlord Cheryl Scozzafava.

One of the last memories we have of our Mom was just before Christmas - one of her daughters had delivered bags of wrapped Christmas gifts to her. When the daughter went to leave, she turned around and looked at her Mom and Jean was leaning over and peeking in her Christmas bag of gifts and she had this little smile on her face and she looked happy. That's the way we want to remember our Mom...a little moment when she was happy.

Per Jean's request there were no services. A mass will be said for Jean at a future date.

Donations in Jean's memory may be made to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad Inc., PO Box 72, Moriah Center, NY 12961.
