PERU — Richard A. "Bud" Smith, 49, of the Lapham Mills Road, Peru, entered into eternal rest, unexpectedly, Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 from his home, following a lengthy struggle with heart disease.
He was born in Plattsburgh, June 6, 1963, son of the former Patricia Passino and the late Richard Terry Smith.
Bud, as he was fondly referred, grew up in Clintonville. He attended AuSable Valley Central School and was a NYS Certified Welder. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with friends. He loved to drive anything with a motor. Whether two wheels or four, if it was drivable, he'd be ready and willing to run it. Bud was a generous person, always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. He'll be sorely missed by those who knew him.
Survivors include his fiance, Jessie Gilmore of Peru and her children (whom he was lovingly raising as his own), Shawn and Courtney; his mother and step-father, Patricia and Roger Wayne Manning Sr. of Keeseville; two brothers, Mark Smith and companion Ruby Patillo of Keeseville, and Ramsey Smith, also of Keeseville; one sister, Terrie Smith of Keeseville; four step-sisters, Melody, Nadine, Tonya, and Iris; and several dearly loved nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to his father, he was also predeceased by his step-brother, Roger Manning, Jr.
Calling hours will be held from Noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 124 Clinton Street, Keeseville. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Friday, April 26, following a 9 a.m. Mass at the Immaculate Conception Church.
