Leone Moore

ELLENBURG CENTER — Leone Moore, formerly of Ellenburg Center, died on Monday, Jan. 14.

Born Leone Honsinger on July 11, 1921, she was the eldest daughter of Hardy and Ora (Cook) Honsinger. She married Claude Moore in 1939.

Leone was a mom, grandmother, homemaker and a caseworker for the Clinton County Social Services until her retirement in 1986. She was active in the Eastern Star. The family farm was always the center of social life for the extended Moore and Honsinger families.

Survivors include a sister, Hilda Besaw of Massena; two sons, Bruce and his wife Athena of Morrisonville, Dennis and his wife Doreen of Sauquoit; and a daughter Ellen and Bob Lacey of Plattsburgh. Also, there are nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Her husband Claude; a brother Floyd; a sister Alta Heazle; and two sons, David and Darrell, predeceased her.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18 at the Chateaugay Funeral Home. Rev. Gary Rhodehamel will conduct services at 11 a.m. on Jan.19 at the United Methodist Church in Ellenburg Center.

The family wishes to thank the many caregivers who contributed to her quality of life in her final years. These include Cindy, Melissa, Claire, Sandy and Dan in Ellenburg and Rose, Susan, Julie and Regina in Sauquoit.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ellenburg Center Fire Department.
