Virginia R. Weir

CLAYBURG — Mrs. Virginia R. Weir, 90, of Flynn Ave. in Plattsburgh and formerly of Clayburg, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at the Clinton County Nursing Home with family by her side. She was born in Ossining, N.Y. on Oct. 20, 1922, the daughter of the late William and Madeline (Croke) Rowe, Jr. She was a graduate of Ossining High School and attended Russell Sage College.

During World War II, she was employed as a reservation clerk at Grand Central Station in New York City to assist soldiers returning home. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, flower and vegetable gardening, music, cooking and spending time with family and friends. Virginia was also an avid Montreal Expos and New York Giants fan.

She is survived by her children and their spouses; William and Elaine Incognito of Halliday, N.D., Ellen Neville and her companion Maurice of Rochester, N.Y., Teresa and Bryan Yanulavich of Merrill, Francis and Kim Weir of Ogdensburg, Karen and Michael Clancy of Saranac, Kathleen and Brian Light of Cadyville, Lisa and Steven Brousseau of West Plattsburgh; 22 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; four great- great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband of over 46 years, Thomas Andy Weir passed away in Dec. of 1993. Her first husband, Antonio Incognito was killed in 1944 during the Italian Campaign in World War II; and two sisters, Ellen Dorn and Anne Wickham also passed away earlier.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, at the Brown Funeral Home, 3 Park Row in Cadyville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Church of the Assumption in Redford. Interment will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
