CHAZY — Willard R. Martin Jr., 82, of Church Street, died early Tuesday morning, March 5, 2013, at his home.
He was born in Chazy April 1, 1930, the son of Willard and Sarah Martin Sr. Willard graduated from Chazy Rural School in 1947 and enlisted into the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1948 to 1968. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. He married Phyllis Sinnott in Calif. in 1952. She predeceased him in 2007.
In 1975, he graduated from Clinton Community College. Willard worked at the West Chazy Post Office for 27 years, retiring as Post Master in 1995. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Chazy, American Legion Post #769 in Chazy and VFW Post #1418 in Champlain.
Survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Ted and Sherrie Martin of Colorado Springs, Colo., Willard and Carol Martin III of Chazy, David and Marjorie Martin of Denver, Colo., and John Martin of Poughkeepsie; a sister, Hellen Snow of AuSable Forks; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His parents, wife, and a sister, Sally Goldsmith, predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday March 14, at Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. A gathering of family and friends will immediately follow in the church hall. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to American Legion Post #769 in Chazy or VFW Post #1418 in Champlain.
