MOOERS — Mary Ellen Garrand, 85, of Depot Street, Mooers, died Sunday, March 3, 2013, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Lake Worth, Fla. She was born in Plattsburgh, July 31, 1927, the daughter of William and Rhoda (Boudreau) LeClaire. She graduated from St. Mary's in Champlain.
She married Rodney W. Garrand, July 2, 1949 at St. Mary's Church in Champlain by Rev. Gilbert Foucher. Rodney predeceased her, Friday, Jan. 29, 2010.
Mary Ellen was a caring and loving homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mary Ellen was a member of St. Joseph's Church where she was a religious education teacher for 30 years. She enjoyed being with family, especially her grandchildren and, most recently, her three great-grandchildren (Ian, Owen and Emyri). Mary enjoyed everything of beauty and was always reaching out to touch those things that caught her eye. She held special affection for her red Malibu, otherwise known as "My red lollipop". Her special interests included sewing, crafting, gardening, reading, music, eating chocolate at nap time (or any time), watching The Price Is Right, Jeopardy and the four "B's": Bullriding, Bird Watching, Bowling, and Bocci.
Survivors include her children, Cindy Alger and her husband Wayne of Schenectady, Robert Garrand and his wife Diane of Mooers, and Alisa Barcomb and her husband Lee of Rouses Point; grandchildren, Nichole Manor and her husband Trampas of Fla., Heather Belt and husband Jason of Sarnia, Ontario, Kari Garrand and companion Jamil McCray of Plattsburgh, Katrina Garrand of Mooers, Army Spc. Andrew Barcomb and wife Bethany of Rouses Point, and Amanda Barcomb of Rouses Point; siblings, Bill and Linda LeClaire of Ariz., Theresa and Philip Barlow of Mass., Jim and Mary LeClaire of Mass., and Gloria and Robert Trombley of Champlain; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Danyel Alger.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, March 11, at St. Joseph's Church in Mooers with Rev. Gerald A. Cerank, parish pastor, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery.
