CHURUBUSCO — Clarence S. Nichols, 88, formerly of Churubusco, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home. He was born in Ellenburg, July 28, 1924, the son of Samuel and Georginna Nichols. On Oct. 26, 1946, he married Gertrude Gardner Nichols. She predeceased him on June 16, 2010.
He worked for Diamond International paper mill for 10 years, he also ran his family farm in Churubusco, then worked for Agway of Chateaugay and Malone until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Bonita and Harold Sharlow of Plattsburgh; three sons, Edwin and Beverly Nichols, Darrell and Kimberley Nichols, and Thomas and Anita Nichols, all of Churubusco. He is also survived by three brothers and one sister and their families, Lawrence and Gerald Nichols of Churubusco, James Nichols of Ellenburg Depot and Eunice Silver of Ellenburg, and he is predeceased by one sister, Doris Degon of Malone. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. At Clarence's request, there be no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Ross Funeral Home in Ellenburg.
His family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Meadowbrook Nursing Home for their kindness and care while Clarence was there.
