PLATTSBURGH — John W. "Racoon" Crary, 59, of Route 3, passed away Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh on May 17, 1950, son of the late William F. and Ruthann (Matthews) Crary.
John was a member and worked for Local 186 in Plattsburgh. He enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles. John will be missed by many.
John is survived by his wife, Haley Crary of Plattsburgh; his companion, Maria Godoy of Plattsburgh; one son, William J. Crary of Plattsburgh; one daughter, Rosalynn Crary, and her companion, Ricky Provost Jr. of Plattsburgh; one sister, Anna Jantz, and her husband, William of Chandler, Ariz.; one grandson, Landon William Provost; a nephew, Matthew Jantz; a niece, Kathryn Jantz; and his dog, Rocky. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Andrea Godoy, Olga Godoy and Daniela Godoy.
The family will be receiving guests Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 48 Court St., Plattsburgh. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Home Chapel.
Donations in his memory may be made to the family in care of William.

Herb was born in Syracuse, N.Y., on July 20, 1940 to Herbert and Anna Louise (Klept) Ryder. Herb spent most of his youth in Geneva, N.Y., and graduated from Geneva High School in 1958. Herb married his high school sweet-heart Carol Lynn Thomas and he attended Indiana University and Erie Technical College to become a licensed optician.
