Michael Francis Branon

CARY, N.C. — Mr. Michael Francis Branon, age 72, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, in the Hock Family Pavilion, Durham, N.C.

He was born in Newport, Vt., March 29, 1940, son of the late William Barry and Mary (Mulcahy) Branon.

Michael served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve. He attended The College of the Holy Cross, the University of New York, receiving his Bachelors Degree in English Education and Masters Degree in Educational Counseling. He also went to the Vermont Law School. He was the owner and proprietor of Mountain Lake Cottages on Lake Willoughby and recently ran for Vermont State Senator in 2010. He was employed by Boston College, Jostens Inc., Downs, Rachlin, and Martin PLLC. He served as Grand Juror in the town of Westmore, Vt..

Michael is survived by his daughter Meghan Branon of Weare, N.H.; his sons Daniel Branon of Jacksonville, Fla., and Andrew Branon of Rescue, Calif.; five grandchildren; his brothers William Branon of Gates Mills, Ohio and Terry Branon of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; his sisters Rosanne Corrado of West Chazy, N.Y., Gracemary Fairbanks and Kathleen Stark, both of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be deeply missed by his canine companion, Shirley. Michael was predeceased by his parents and brothers Kevin Branon and Martin Branon.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, in St. Patrick's Church, Fairfield, Vt. Burial will follow in the Branon family lot in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, Dec.14 at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, Vt.
