Ida Mae (Cook) Lafave

ELLENBURG — Ida Mae (Cook) Lafave, 83 of Route 11, Ellenburg died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, peacefully at home with family by her side and under the compassionate care of Hospice of the North Country. She was born in Ellenburg, December 27, 1928, to the late George and Mamie (LaClair) Cook. She married Lionel Lafave on Nov. 30, 1946.

Ida will be remembered for her deep faith and love of the Lord, her unwavering strength in raising ten children, as well as her kind and gentle nature. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife, sister, and aunt. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, quilting, crafts, bowling, search-a-word puzzles and garage sales.

Ida previously worked as a home health aide for North Country Home Services and at the Ellenburg Nutrition Site. She was a member of Churubusco Home Bureau, Churubusco Adult Club and Chateaugay Womens Bowling League.

Ida was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Churubusco and a member of the Altar Rosary Society.

Survivors include, nine children; George and his wife Sylvia of Lincolnton, N.C., James and wife Cathy of Hickory, N.C., Evelyn McGill and husband Patrick of Plattsburgh, Grace Griffin and husband Dale of Constable, Rose Lafave and companion Louis Laliberte of Malone, Wesley Lafave of Plattsburgh, Marshall Lafave and wife Tammy of Ellenburg, Lucy Wood and husband Leo of Plattsburgh and Russell Lafave and wife Linda of Morrisonville. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and three great step-grandchildren, a sister, Frances Dunn and two brothers, Russell (Eunice) Cook and Norman Cook, sisters in law Rachael Parent, Noella Schenck, Ida Lafave, Reda Hoth, Grace (Gerald) Dupree and Patricia Cloutier, along with several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Ida was predeceased by her husband, Lionel, her son, Patrick and a sister, Lillian LaClair.

Calling hours will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Ross Funeral Home in Ellenburg Depot. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Oratory in Churubusco. Entombment will follow at Whispering Maples Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.

Memorial donations may be made to the Churubusco Volunteer Fire Dept./Rescue Squad or Hospice of the North Country.
