HARRISBURG, UTAH — Diana Mason Green of Harrisburg, Utah, passed away at age 83 on 11/5/2012. She was born in New York City to Martin and Irene Hand Mason on 3/20/1929. Raised in Montclair, NJ, and a high school classmate of Buzz Aldrin, she went on to Smith College where she studied mathematics. Diana received a Masters Degrees from Princeton University, N.J., and University of California Berkeley. She was a pioneer in computer research, directly involved in the creation of ENIAC, the 1st vacuum tube computer.
In 1967 she married Robert Green of Peru, N.Y. and become a 2nd mom to Robert, Karla and Pamela. Son Adam joined the family soon after. In her second career at SUNY Plattsburgh, she was the Director of Research and chaired the Computer Department.
Lifelong interests included travel and the outdoors, alpine skiing, sewing/knitting and cooking.
After retirement, Bob and Diana lived on their boat in Florida for several years. In 1993, after traveling the West in their motor home, they settled in Harrisburg, Utah and met many of the best friends they ever had.
Diana was preceded in death by husband Robert, and survived by son, Adam, Rockville (Utah); and three stepchildren, Robert Green (Va.), Karla Young (Va.) and Pamela Clift (Ariz.); four grandchildren, many great grandchildren and a brother, Martin Mason (Fla).
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
