CADYVILLE — Mrs. Dorothy M. Devan, 89, of Beekman St. in Plattsburgh and formerly of Cadyville, passed away Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with her loving family by her side. She was born in Orange, Va., on May 3, 1923, the daughter of Clarence and Gertrude (Rippeto) Ramsey.
Dorothy graduated from business school in Summersville, West Virginia and went to work at the State Department in Washington, D.C. While working there, she met the love of her life Clement A. Devan, whom she married June 9, 1945. They were married for sixty years when Clement passed away in 2005.
She was a Charter and Honorary member of the Cadyville Firemens Auxiliary, serving more than fifty years and was a member of St. James Church in Cadyville. Dorothy also worked at Woolworths.
She loved being surrounded by family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy enjoyed reading and watching the Game Show Network.
She is survived by a son and daughter in law, James and Bonny Devan of Peru; three daughters and two sons in law, Pat and Jim Duffany of Plattsburgh, Donna Dukette of West Plattsburgh, Debbie and Larry Fellion of Cadyville; her grandchildren, James Dukette, Beth Hoopes, Mike Devan and his wife Sally, Katie Cutcher, Bill Duffany and his wife Trish, Sharon Devan and Jamie Dowler and her husband Jeremy; her great-grandchildren, Kayla and Alex Hoopes, Cody and Ryan Devan, Kelsey and Cameron Cutcher; her in-laws, Elizabeth and Sam Connor and Annette and Jim Cayea; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Gertrude Ramsey; her husband, Clement Devan who passed away Oct. 15, 2005; a sister, Margaret Rapp; and three brothers, James Ramsey, and twin brothers Paige and Paul Ramsey.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, at the Brown Funeral Home, 3 Park Row in Cadyville.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, at St. James Church in Cadyville. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
