Norman W. Lafave

WEST CHAZY — Norman W. Lafave, 70, of State Route 22, West Chazy, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Oct. 6, 1942, the son of Wilfred and Doris (Hemingway) Lafave. He grew up in Irona and attended school in Altona.

Norman retired from Georgia Pacific in 2002 following 39 years of dedicated service. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed tending to his lawn and greenery or up in the woods with his tractor. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and friends. He also enjoyed daily car rides around the area, trips to the casino, and spending the winter months in their Silver Springs Florida residence. He was a former member of the Mooers Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Lorraine (Begore) Lafave, whom he married Sept. 1, 1962, at St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Scott LaValley of Mooers, Lora and Sheen Pombrio of Chazy; one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Karen Lafave of Mooers; four grandchildren, Amber Duprey and husband Bryan of Peru, Michael LaValley and companion Taylor Sample of Beekmantown, and Nathan and Matthew Lafave, both of Mooers; one sister, Gloria Lafountain of Mooers; mother-in-law, Bertha (Lafountain) Begore of Mooers; Lorraine's siblings, Leeward (Kitty) Begore, Barbara (Norman) Jock, Larry (companion Donna LaRose) Begore, and Sheila (Robert) Davenport; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Alden Lafave; brother-in-law, Albert Lafountain; father-in-law, Mark Begore; and brother-in-law, Garvin Begore.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Rd., Mooers.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks with The Most Reverend Terry R. LaValley, Bishop of Ogdensburg, presiding. Entombment will follow in the Whispering Maples Memorial Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Chazy Fire Department, Route 9, Chazy, NY, 12992.
