M. Patricia Creighton

FORT COVINGTON — M. Patricia Creighton, 75, of Fort Covington, N.Y., passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at her home, while under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country, Inc. Born in Fort Covington, on Oct. 9, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Vivian McCaffrey Smythe.

She was a graduate of Massena High School and later graduated from N.C.C.C. with a degree in mental health and also as a registered nurse

On Dec. 29, 1956, she was united in marriage to William D. "Bill" Creighton at the Methodist Parsonage in Bombay, N.Y., by the late Rev. Jones. He predeceased her on Feb. 19, 2002.

Her working career started many years ago at the William Mansion Nursing Home in Malone as a nurse's aide, while she was attending college. She later worked at the Alice Hyde Hospital in Malone as an R.N. and for Dr. Horne as an orthopedic nurse. Several years ago, Pat wrote the grants to start the Teen Women's Health Clinic at the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe Health Center in Hogansburg, with a branch at Salmon River Central School. She was the Program Director for many years, retiring in 2006. After her retirement, Pat spent her time volunteering with Hospice of the North Country and also with troubled teens.

She enjoyed reading, flower gardening, photography, restoring and preserving the Creighton family home, collecting antiques, shopping and spending time with her family and friends. Her winters were spent with her friends in Arizona.

Pat is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, William and Tiffany Creighton of Plattsburgh; and by one daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and John Brethour of Fort Covington; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry and Gloria Smythe of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Brian and Sharon Smythe of Massena, Bruce Smythe of Richmond, Va., and Neil and Tish Smythe of Chicago, Ill., and Margie Corwin of Calif.; one sister, Stephanie Smythe, of Salem, Ore.; one brother-in-law, Roland Casad of Silverton, Ore. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kaitlin and Colleen Brethour, Stephanie Creighton Casad, and Holly and Natalie Creighton; one great- grandson, Thor Thompson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the Elmwood Cemetery in Fort Covington with Rev. Donald Alexander officiating.

Donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of the North Country, Inc. or to the Fort Covington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.

A luncheon and party to celebrate Pat's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Fort Covington American Legion.

Arrangements are through the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington, N.Y.
