Wendell W. Lashua

DANNEMORA — Wendell W. Lashua passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at the age of 74 with his loving family by his side. He was born May 15, 1938, the son of Walter and Beulah Lashua in Star Lake, N.Y. He married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Doran, in 1958. They lived in Star Lake until 1962, when they moved to Dannemora.

Wendell retired from Clinton Correctional Facility in 2000. His favorite pastime was helping others and doing odd jobs with family and friends. He was also a proud member of the Cumberland Bay Chorus, active in the Twin Palms Vespers Choir, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and wintering in Florida. He once sang with Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians.

Wendell is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Lashua; five children, Michelle and Gregory Beaulieu of Sherwood, Wis., Michael and Rebecca Lashua of Dannemora, Mark and Barb Lashua of Heuvelton, Marilyn Daley of Fairhaven, Vt., and Melissa and Robert Goddeau Jr. of Peru; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four brothers and one sister. He was predeceased by his mother, father and one brother.

Wendell believed in the importance of being a good man. He knew the impact that a smile and kindness could have on those around him, be it family or strangers. He lived with the mentality that a person should give the shirt off of their back for friends in need, and led by example. He believed in honesty, hard work and helping those around him simply because it is the right thing to do. We are sad to say goodbye and honored to say he was our son, husband, father, pops, or brother.

No public calling hours will be held. A memorial service will be done at the convenience of the family.
