WEST CHAZY — Kenneth Robert Gonyo Sr., 72 of West Chazy, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at his home unexpectedly.
He was born July 15, 1940, in Chazy, the son of Arthur E. Sr. and Margaret (Behan) Gonyo. He married Karla Lee (Pombrio) Gonyo on Nov. 27, 1964, in St Albans Vt.
He was a self-employed truck driver for many years. He owned his own repair shop (Ken's Auto and Truck Repair) in which he ran with his son Rob. He was a great mechanic. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Berlin Crisis. Ken was a member of the Lyons Club. He loved his cats and he enjoyed racing. Ken also enjoyed visiting with all of his friends over coffee at the Country Corner Drive In Diner in West Chazy. He enjoyed any social time with friends and family. He will be missed by many.
Ken was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Karla.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Robert "Rob" Gonyo Jr. and his wife Lisa of Peru; two brothers, Arthur "Bud" Gonyo and his wife Elnor of Chazy, Dale S. Gonyo and his companion Amy Mitchell of Chazy; two sisters, Monna Fountain of Chazy, Donna Weightman of Chazy; and two grandchildren, Rachel Bell and Jacob Bell. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Ross Funeral Home in Mooers. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy. Donations in his memory may be made to The Hope Lodge in Burlington, Vt., Elmore SPCA or the St. John's Feral Cat Fund.
