MOOERS FORKS — Bertha M. Underwood, 89, formerly of the Cannons Corners Road, Mooers Forks, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Mooers Forks, February 12, 1923, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Lamere) Brassard.
Bertha was a resident of Evergreen Valley Nursing Home for the previous two years, where she was fondly referred to as "Grandma". She was employed for 20 years at Delagar Prod. in Rouses Point. Prior to that, she worked at the slipper factory.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, including spending winters in Florida with her son and daughter and their families. She was a former member of the Mooers Senior Citizens Club. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Helen Underwood and Gary and Patricia Underwood of West Chazy, and Randy and Cathy Underwood of North West Palm Bay, Fla.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, David and Joan Waddell Sr. of Mebourne, Fla., Gary and Betty Dragoon of Sciota, and Katherine Underwood of Plattsburgh; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Veronica, Eileen, and Rena Brassard; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Clifford, whom she married Jan. 21, 1942; six brothers, Edward, Leo, Clarence, Alfred, Louis, and Homer Brassard; and one sister, Flora Monette.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10, at St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks with Rev. Gerald Cerank and Rev. Alan Shnob celebrating. Burial will follow in the Whispering Maples Memorial Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.
