Janice (Brooks) Shannon

PLATTSBURGH — Janice (Brooks) Shannon, 66, of the Arnold Road, Plattsburgh, died Oct. 4, 2012, in the presence of her loving family, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

She was born on Sept. 26, 1946, in Plattsburgh, the daughter of Harold and Helma (Yelle) Brooks.

Janice graduated from Chateaugay High School with the Class of 1964, and from Our Lady of Victory Secretarial School in 1965. She began working at Plattsburgh AFB where she met her husband Paul A. Shannon who was on active duty. They were married in 1969 and spent over 20 years in the Air Force, at various locations. After her first child, she became a stay at home Mom raising three wonderful children. She was well known to her childrens classmates and was a favorite chaperone at school functions. Janice was a wonderful wife and mother, a doting grandmother and loyal Yankee fan.

Survivors include her husband Paul; son, Paul M. Shannon and his wife Lisa, son, Daniel B. Shannon; daughter, Amanda K. Frennier and her husband Carey; and grandsons Paul Anthony Shannon, Alexander Michael Shannon, and Bryton Dominic Shannon.

She was predeceased by her father Harold in 2010, her mother Helma in 1989, and her brother Harold (Butch) Brooks in 1962.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 8 from 9 to 11 a.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Patricks Church, Chateaugay.

Burial will take place at St. Patricks Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Chateaugay Rescue Squad.
