MORRISONVILLE — Dorothy Elizabeth (Couture) Barber, 91, of Mason Street, Morrisonville, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at her home, under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country.
She was born in Dannemora, July 3, 1921, the daughter of Alex and Mary Louise (Reyell) Couture.
Dorothy and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm for several years. She later handled the books for the family business, Bernard Barber Sales and Service in Morrisonville. She enjoyed crocheting, embordering, and refinishing furniture and crafts.
She was a longtime member of St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville.
Survivors include her loving husband of 66 years, Bernard A. Barber, whom she married, Jan. 30, 1946, at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Robert Conners, and Mary and Tom Sears, all of Morrisonville; five grandchildren and spouses, William and Shannon Conners of Morrisonville, Elizabeth and Jamy Begor of Mooers, Tina and Ricky Jubert of Morrisonville, Michelle and (Gary) Lee Vaughn of Plattsburgh, and Tammy and Randy Spoor of West Chazy; five great grandchildren, Elizabeth Jubert and companion Kolby Rawleigh, Emily and Fiana Conners, and Ethan and Amanda Vaughn; sisters-in-law, Loretta Boyd, Bernadette (Barber) Favro, Mildred Barber, and Genevive and her husband, Ronald LaDuke; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; siblings, Amos and Mary Couture, Agnes Couture, Clifford and Hazel Couture, Richard Couture, Ruth and Douglas Ryan, and Fred and Bernadette Couture; parents-in-law, Andrew and Lorena Barber; and brothers-in-law, Francis Barber and Calvin Favro.
Calling hours will be at 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. Committal prayers and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
