ELLENBURG DEPOT — This cowboy took his final ride Dec. 10, 2012. James R. Wright, 65, of Ellenburg Depot passed away at his home with his family by his side.
He was born June 1, 1947 in Plattsburgh, the son of Donald and Norma (Baxter) Wright. Jim was a lifelong resident of Ellenburg.
He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, a member of the American Reining Horse Association, a past chairman of the Ellenburg Republican Committee, a member of Franklin Trail Riders. He showed horses for over 50 years. He was a true cowboy. He lived to ride. He operated Wright's Furniture and Wright's Grocery until the family business was sold. Jim was also a corrections officer at Franklin.
Jim was predeceased by his parents.
Survivors include one son, Brad Wright and his wife Kim of Ellenburg Depot; one daughter, Haley Spoor and her husband Dean of Ellenburg Depot; one stepson, Alan Cook and his wife Carrie of Ky.; his grandchildren, Kristen Bartlemus and her husband Steve of Ellenburg, Patrick Drown of Ellenburg, Brynn Spoor of Ellenburg, Ashton Wright of Ellenburg, Alex Cook of Ky. and Kate Cook of Ky. He is also survived by one great-grandson, Hayden Brunet.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 at the Ross Funeral Home in Ellenburg Depot. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13th at the Ross Funeral Home in Ellenburg Depot.
Memorial donations may be made to the Ellenburg Depot Fire Department or Hospice of the North Country.
