CHAZY — Eleanor Margaret (Reid) Trombly, 90, died on Friday, Aug. 3, at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born at home in Plattsburgh on Nov. 22, 1921, the daughter of Richard and Evelyn (Bell) Reid.
She married Hersey Theodore Trombly at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville in 1942.
Eleanor's early schooling was at the one room District No. 7 School in Morrisonville, and she graduated high school with honors from D'Youville Academy in Plattsburgh.
She volunteered as a catechist for over 25 years at Sacred Heart Church in Chazy, as well as at the Beekmantown School of Religion for St. Joseph's Church, West Chazy. At St. Joseph's, she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, the Liturgy Committee, and was a lector.
Her greatest interest was her family. She was an avid reader all her life and she also enjoyed her extensive recipe collections.
Survivors include eight children, two sons, Alan Trombly and his wife Eunice of Chazy and Neil Trombly and his wife Ellen of Eau Clair, Wis.; six daughters, Mary Ducharme and her husband Richard of Hemmingford, QU, Lynn Wheeler of Md. and her husband Gary Arrington, Rhonda Daley and her husband David of Chazy, Janice Rabideau and her husband Kenneth of Saranac, Cheryl Weber and her husband William of Chazy and Robin Kiesenhofer of Dryden, N.Y. She is also survived by her sister, Bernice Lapham of Wallace Hill Road, Plattsburgh.
Eleanor was proud to have 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Hersey; son Michael; daughter Joan; as well as six brothers, Edmond, Raymond, Bernard, Orville, Leander, and Robert. A sister, Evelyn, died in infancy. She was also predeceased by two grandsons, Richard Ducharme Jr. and Daniel Weber.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court St., Plattsburgh.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 8, from St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy. Burial will be at St. Joseph's parish cemetery immediately following the Mass.
All family and friends are welcome to a reception at St. Joseph's Parish Hall after burial.
Donations in Eleanor's memory may be made to the Altar Rosary Society of St. Joseph's in West Chazy, and to the Clinton County Office of the Aging, the EISEP Program.
