PLATTSBURGH Viola H. Smart, 94, formerly of the Emery House in Morrisonville, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at Meadowbrook Nursing Facility with her family by her side.
She was born in Westville, Vt., Sept. 3, 1916, the daughter of Nathan and Grace (Bondy) Jones.
At age 15, Viola was the youngest employee at Will Rogers Institute. She then married Ernest Smart in 1936 by Rev. Ball in Plattsburgh. Viola's true joy in life was raising her family.
She was a former member of St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain, before moving to the Plattsburgh area.
Survivors include a son, Francis Smart of West Chazy; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jack McCasland of Dannemora; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a half brother; two half sisters; several nieces and nephews.
Viola was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Smart; a son, Roderick Smart; and a brother, Raymond Jones.
A graveside service was held Saturday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m. at Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens, Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh, with Rev. Howard McCasland officiating.
