PLATTSBURGH — Mrs. Elizabeth Petenyi, 96, of Point View Terrace in Plattsburgh, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at her home, under the care of Hospice of the North Country and Vicky Tousignant, her friend and caregiver.
She was born in Aug. 27, 1916, in Budapest, Hungary, daughter of the late Fritz and Liesl (Cazalet) Hauner.
She married Dr. Charles Petenyi, who passed away in 2002. They came to the United States in April of 1949 and moved to Plattsburgh the same year.
She was a translator and was a member of the CVPH Ladies Auxillary and the Tuesday Club. Elizabeth lived a long, interesting and dignified life. She enjoyed traveling around the world, was an avid reader, and enjoyed going to operas and museums.
Elizabeth is survived by her nephew and Godson, Gyorgy Erlaky; a great niece, Hajna Erlaky and family, all of Budapest, Hungary; several close friends and caregivers.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the Brown Funeral Home chapel, with Sister Mary Ann Gour, Spiritual Care Coordinator of Hospice of the North Country, officiating. Following cremation, Elizabeth will be buried in Traunstein, Germany with her husband and other family members.
