PLATTSBURGH — Genevieve M. Layhee, 88, of South Catherine Street, Plattsburgh, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at the CVPH Medical Center.
She was born in Peru, Jan. 28, 1925, the daughter of John and Bessie (Boyd) McCormick. She married Edward "Ted" Layhee, Nov. 27, 1951, at the Methodist Parsonage.
She was a longtime bartender at The Surrey Lounge and Dominic's Restaurant, both of Plattsburgh, prior to retiring.
She enjoyed spending time with the Red Hatters, bowling, knitting, watching soap operas or as she referred to them "her stories", word search puzzles, and shopping at the Christmas Tree Shop, but her true love was spending time with her great-grandson, Kamden.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Tiana Leigh Gushlaw; great-grandson, Kamden Scott DuBrey; and several nieces, nephews, other special relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents, and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Lynn Layhee, Dec. 25, 1992; son, Mark Layhee, June 17, 1999; and daughter, Lori Stevens, March 26, 2000.
At her request there will be no public calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at the Harkness United Methodist Church with Rev. Edie A. Poland, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Harkness Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Harkness United Methodist Church.
