CHAMPLAIN — Genevieve M. Hemingway, 85, formerly of the LaValley Road, Champlain, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Plattsburgh, under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country.
She was born in Mooers, Aug. 14, 1927, the daughter of William and Della (Belrose) Matott.
Genevieve was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, and puzzle books, but her true joy was taking care of her family.
Survivors include her daughters, Theresa Seaver and husband William, Carolyn Bouchard and husband George, Linda Croft and companion Joseph Coupal, all of Plattsburgh, Barbara Hoover and husband Norman of Champlain, Debra Duval and husband Samuel of Peru, Kathy LaPier of Schuyler Falls, Juanita Duprey of Champlain, Robbin Collins of Virginia; her sons, Gerald Hemingway of Rouses Point, Richard Hemingway and wife Shirley of Plattsburgh, David Hemingway and wife Barbara of Altona, Chester Hemingway and wife Danielle of New Haven, Vt.; daughters-in-law, Cindy Hemingway of Peru and Janet Hemingway of Mooers; 51 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; brothers, Orville Mattot and wife Loretta of West Chazy, and Chester Mattot of Albany; sister, Gloria McGee and husband Robert of Rochester; one special nephew, Thom Hemingway and wife Terri of Champlain; and many other special nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Leeward G. Hemingway Sr.; sons, Leeward G. Hemingway Jr., Orville Hemingway, and Jimmy Hemingway; and one daughter, Hazel Hemingway.
At Genevieve's request, there will be no public calling. Committal prayers will be offered at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Whispering Maples Memorial Mausoleum, Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh. Rev. William G. Reamer, CVPH Chaplain, will preside.
