Raymond J. Martin

KEESEVILLE — Raymond J. Martin, 82, of Morrow Lane, Keeseville, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 at Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown with his loving daughter by his side.

He was born in Lewis, June 9, 1930, the son of John and Hazel (Crowningshield) Martin.

Raymond served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1948.

He worked at Anchor Motor Freight in Champlain for 10 years, Torrington Construction in Keeseville for 8 years, and lastly served for 12 years with the Town of Chesterfield Highway Dept.

Raymond enjoyed working on cars from 1979 until 2006, for family and friends from his home garage. He also enjoyed outdoor activities, including hunting.

Raymond was a former member of the Keeseville Fire Dept, a member of the Keeseville Elks Lodge # 2072 and the Keeseville VFW # 1505.

Survivors include four children; two sons and daughter-in-law, Raymond C. and Wanda Martin, and Jerry Martin, all of Keeseville; two daughters and son-in-law, Kathy Prevost, and Linda Clarke and companion Randy Yelle, all of Keeseville; sister, Dorothy Whitford of Moriah; honorary son, Jim Frank of Keeseville; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Elizabeth F. ''Betty'' Martin; one son, David Martin; brothers, Victor, Harold, and William ''Willy''; and one sister, Arlene Seward.

Calling hours will be private and at the convenience of the family. A Mass of Christian burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at St. John's Church in Keeseville with Monsignor Leeward J. Poissant, parish pastor, celebrating. Military Honors will follow the Mass, in the church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Friday, April 26, 2013, following a 9 a.m. Mass at the Immaculate Conception Church.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Keeseville Elks Lodge # 2072, 1 Elks Lane, Keeseville, NY, 12944 or the Alzheimers Disease Assistance Center, Sibley Hall Room 227, 101 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, NY, 12901.

    HERKIMER — Russell A. LaFontaine, 91, of Herkimer and formerly of Champlain, N.Y., passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 15, 2013, in the Folts Home, Inc., Herkimer, with his family by his side. He was born Dec. 22, 1921, in Champlain, the son of the late Emmett and Elsie (Allard) LaFontaine and was educated in Champlain schools. Russell served in the United States Army during World War II. He married the former Leona Dupee. Mrs. LaFontaine passed away in 1989.
