Chester Charles Peters

TICONDEROGA — Chester Charles Peters, 82, of Ticonderoga, died on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the CVPH Medical Center of Plattsburgh. Born in Port Henry, July 30, 1930, he was the son of the late Claude and Mary (Potter) Peters.

Mr. Peters was a Korean War veteran of both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He was a resident of Ticonderoga for most of his life. He married Sheila J. Mulcahy on September 12, 1954. Mr. Peters held many jobs in the Ticonderoga area over the years, including a self-employed carpenter, a Ticonderoga Police Officer, a truck driver for Pyrofax Gas Company, and an employee of International Paper Company. In the 1960's, he was a caretaker of Arcady Summer Camp. He was a volunteer of the Ticonderoga Ambulance Squad, Fire Department, and was instrumental in rebuilding the Mt. Defiance lookout. Mr. Peters was a 50 year member of the American Legion Post # 224 and a member of the V.F.W., both of Ticonderoga. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was pre-deceased by one brother, Robert Peters Sr. Survivors include his wife, Sheila Peters; six children, Terry C. Peters and his wife Judy of Brant Lake, Jerry F. Peters and his wife, Colleen of Elizabethtown, Laurie J. Rafferty of Port Henry, Vickie Messier and her husband, Charles of Ticonderoga, Dale J. Peters and his companion, Diane Gijanto of Ticonderoga, and Christopher M. Peters and his companion, Michelle Jordan of Ticonderoga; one brother Michael Peters of Glens Falls; and two sisters, JoAnn Swarthout of Florida and Connie Peeters of Ticonderoga. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 12th at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Kevin D. McEwan, Pastor, will officiate.

The Rite of Committal will take place in the spring at the family plot of St. Mary's Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga.
