WITHERBEE — Mark Whalen (1952-2013) passed away Tuesday night after a battle with cancer, while his family stood by his side. In life he was a man of unparalleled compassion and was a stalwart and thoughtful friend to those who knew him.
He grew up in Witherbee, N.Y. and moved to Portland, Oregon in 1972. There he took on carpentry as a career, met his wife and started a family before returning to Witherbee in 2004.
Those who knew him can attest that his empathy knew no bounds as he often put others before himself. He was a dutiful husband an outstanding father and a loving son.
He is survived by his son, Brad and his daughter, Kimberly as well as his mother, Carol and his siblings; Paul, Joe, Rick, Bill, Debbie, Cheryl, Mary Lou and Peter. He now joins his wife Joanne and father Peter in the life beyond.
A Wake will be held to remember Mark from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Harland Funeral Home, 4279 Main Street, Port Henry, NY, 12974.
