Edward M. O'Connell

CLIFTON PARK — Edward M. O'Connell, age 77 years, of 40 Valencia Lane, Clifton Park N.Y., passed away at home surrounded by his family on Jan. 6, 2013. He was born in North Adams, Mass. and has been a resident of the Capital District his entire life.

After serving in the US Navy, Ed attended Siena College where he received his degree in accounting. Ed was a public servant for the State of New York, retiring in 1996 after more than 37 years of dedicated service. Ed also ran a successful income tax preparation business with his wife, Betty, for more than 26 years.

Ed was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and nature in all its forms at every opportunity. He also loved to participate in a good poker game with his family, even if the stakes were for pennies.

Son of the late Edward and Dorothy Payette O'Connell; brother of the late Virginia O'Connell Franks; husband of Betty Munson O'Connell, father of Scott O'Connell (Joan), Kathleen O'Connell-Chase, Michael O'Connell (Elizabeth), Paul O'Connell, Edward P. O'Connell (Melissa), and the late Edward M. O'Connell; grandfather of Danielle, Mackenzie, Hunter, Cameron, Emily, Liam, and Zachary, in addition to many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A note of special thanks to those who have been enormously supportive to Ed's wife, Betty, during his illness. Betty is eternally grateful for your loving assistance provided during this very difficult time.

Funeral from W.J. Lyons Jr. funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer, N.Y. on Jan. 11 at 9:30 a.m. to St. Michael the Archangel Church, North Greenbush where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Jan. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
