Henry George Behr

SARANAC LAKE/WILLSBORO — Henry George Behr, 86 years with the Lord, of 78 Will Rogers Drive, Saranac Lake died Saturday Jan. 5, 2013.

Henry was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on August 31, 1926. He grew up in Glendale, Queens, where he met his wife Miriam. Then moved to Plainview, Long Island, where they raised their 5 children, before moving to Willsboro, N.Y. in 1989.

Henry and Miriam were married for 54 years before she passed away. He was a devoted husband and father.

Henry is survived by five children, Barbara and husband Ted Urban of Hicksville, Larry and wife Jayne of Key West, Fla., Elaine and husband Rick Knobel of Bloomingdale, Christopher and wife Michelle of Wading River, and Rosemarie and husband Geoff Dubrowsky of Brick, N.J., 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Henry went into the Navy right out of high school during WWII. He was a banker for 15 years, before being employed at Peerless instrument Corporation, a Naval nuclear design and manufacturing company. He started as a contracts administrator and rose through the ranks to Director of Human Resources, before he retired in 1989.

Henry was very involved with the community and church. He was a scout leader for 17 years. He was an extremely positive influence and role model for many hundreds of young people. Henry was the Grand Knight of the Willsboro-Essex Knights of Columbus. He was also the Faithful Navigator for the Bishop Wadhams General Assembly. In their spare time, Henry and Miriam loved camping, and actually camped in every State, except 2.

Henry moved to Will Rogers in Oct. of 2005. Jamie, the director wrote "by Anonymous" "Men show their character in nothing more clearly then what they find laughable." Henry can find laughter in just about anything. Since Henry came to Will Rogers, his quick wit and sense of humor has brought much happiness to all the residents and staff. Henry will be surely missed at Will Rogers and by all who knew him.

Calling hours will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3 p.m at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Willsboro.

Friends wishing to remember Henry G. Behr may make memorial contributions to High Peaks Hospice or St. Jude's Children Research Hospital in care of the funeral home. Family and friends can also share their memories and sign the online guestbook at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
