PLATTSBURGH — Mrs. Ruby A. Burdo, 98, formerly of Rugar Street in Plattsburgh and Altona, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh. She was born in Mooers on Oct. 13, 1914, the daughter of the late Henry and Anna Melvina (Manor) West. Ruby attended St. Joseph's Church in Treadwells Mills and was a member of several senior citizens groups and the A.A.R.P.
She was employed at CVPH Medical Center for 15 years until her retirement in 1980. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and spending time with her family.
She is survived by a son; Eldon "Paul" Burdo of Mooers Forks; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Gloria Vincent-Miner and her husband John Miner of Plattsburgh, Leona Caron of Colchester, Conn., James Sayers of Plattsburgh, 24 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Fred Burdo, passed away in 1977. Two sons, Clarence and Robert Burdo; a daughter, Frieda Sayers; a brother, Maurice West; four sisters, Nina Perry, Della Van Cour, Edith VanNortwick, and Pearl LaBombard; and a granddaughter, Joyce Burdo, also died earlier.
Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Brown Funeral Home, 3123 Miner Farm Road in Altona. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Holy Angels Church in Altona. Interment will be in St. Ann's Cemetery in Mooers Forks at a later date.
Memorial donations may be offered to the American Heart Association or Fitzpatrick Cancer Center.
